RYE & RIVET’s mindset about time-tested materials and processes doesn’t end with menswear and booze. After seeing the DIY attitude displayed on BCM&T’s blog, along with their emphasis in quality production of their “small products” line (cutting boards and conditioning oils), we caught up with Josh from BCM&T to talk handmade.
RYE&RIVET: When and how did you start creating your products?
JOSH: Over the past few years, we have developed a very close relationship between how productive our life is vs. how much we consume. We are concerned with the things we choose to have in our lives and we are very concerned with the types of things we make. Our small products have become a great way for us to connect with a larger public in a small but meaningful way.
R&R: What three words would you use to describe your brand’s ideology?
J: Four words: Genuine Article, satisfaction guaranteed.
R&R: What does “Integrity” mean to you in terms of modern production?
J: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Somewhere in it all, integrity must work to balance perception, reality & value. It is a very real subject that gets at the core of our cultural motivation to consume.
R&R: Who is an inspirational icon for you at the moment?
J: The perspective that “we stand on the shoulders of giants” is inspirational to me…momentarily, Constantin Brancusi, I love his work ethic and epic sense of purpose.
R&R: What’s your drink of choice?
J: I like Grappa, way too much…
