We love a good, old-fashioned perfectionist– and Lincoln Henderson is nothing if not a perfectionist. About 10 years after the “divine inspiration” that led him to begin aging Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey in Port barrels, Mr. Henderson is still never satisfied… he tastes a sample from each individual barrel until he’s fully content with the product. We caught up with him to learn about his customer, his inspiration, and what he drinks when he’s not sampling all those barrels.
RYE & RIVET: When and how did you start creating your products?
LINCOLN HENDERSON: The idea of Angel’s Envy blossomed about 10 years ago while sitting around watching bourbon barrels mature. Really exciting. Regardless, I decided to accumulate ex-barrels (port, sherry, madeira, brandy, tequila, etc) and fill them with Woodford Reserve. The results were fantastic!!!
R&R: What three words would you use to describe your brand’s ideology?
LH: Edgy, subtle, harmony.
R&R: What does “Integrity” mean to you in terms of modern production?
LH: To be true to today’s extremely knowledegable super premium whisky consumer. By strictly controlling all aspects of whisky production including grain selection, yeast, fermentation, distillation, and maturation.
R&R: Who is an inspirational icon for you at the moment?
LH: Jimmy Russell of Wild Turkey.
R&R: What’s your drink of choice?
