Hollows Leather’s website is more or less a photo essay on the topic of beautiful wear patterns; their blog is a behind-the-workbench look at the process. For us at RYE & RIVET, this is the perfect storm of “bookmark’d” material. Their “every order is a custom order” mentality is something we really respect– the site lacks a shopping cart or order form of any kind, guaranteeing a custom piece that accommodates your every need. We caught up with Nicholas Hollows himself to ask a few questions about his history, ideology, and, well, beverages.
RYE & RIVET: When and how did you start creating your products?
Nicholas Hollows: I’ve always been making things, but I started making them out of leather after a chance meeting with a box of old tools and scrap leather in the garage. Serendipity.
R&R: What three words would you use to describe your brand’s ideology?
N: Durable, practical, simple. That’s what I’m chasing after, but there will always be miles to go.
R&R: What does “Integrity” mean to you in terms of modern production?
N: To me it means having standards of pride instead of standards of quality control.
R&R: Who is an inspirational icon for you at the moment?
N: Richard Proenneke. Always.
R&R: What’s your drink of choice?
N: Sencha. Espresso if I’m about to earn the extra energy.
Thanks again to Nicholas for answering our questions. To get some one-of-a-kind leather goods yourself, head over to Hollows Leather.
